I'm not much of a sweet tooth...but..

Yes, that's true. I'm actually not much of a sweet-tooth. People sometimes call me crazy that me being a Bong and born and brought up in a place where actually the Rosogolla was invented, I say I am not a big fan of sweets. But food blogging made me explore a lot and lot and lot of sweet in the last few years. I won't say I hate it that much now.

Now, when it comes to Kolkata you will find tons of sweets shops at nearly almost every corner of any street. It's like a mandate. and why won't it be. The city is as sweet as its people.

No kidding !

So it was one of those crazy summer afternoon and my travel buddy and I had no interest in attending the afternoon classes and hence we decided to go out to eat.

Coming out of college we realized it was too hot for us to eat anything except something cold.
That's when she suggested me that I apprantly can't only keep post chowmine and dosa and normal Calcutta street foods in my blog. I need to explore so that my audience won't be bored. I took her idea into considertaion. Little did I know she was going to make me try sweets. So, so many of them.

Falooda Kulfi

The first place that we went to was park street . There I specifically told her that ice-creams will be too mainstreams, and usual making a face she finally said "kulfi then"?
I couldn't have agreed more.

So finally we got one for ourselves. If you are thinking of kulfi the usual one then no. Its was falooda kulfi
Falooda is an Indian version of cold dessert made with noodles. Traditionally it is made by mixing rose syrup, vermicelli and sweet basil with milk and served with ice cream.

Ice- Cream Rolls

This is one of the cutest thing I've ever tried . Its actually called stired-fried ice cream too beacause of its preparation.

The flavoured milk-based liquid is poured onto the ice pan, a freezing-cold stainless steel surface that is chilled, then it is chopped and manipulated until the liquid becomes a cream. The mixture is chopped and probed until a creamy texture has formed. It is spread in a thin layer across the pan, then starting on one side the ice cream or gelato is rolled into its cylinder shape with the use of a spatula. The rolls are placed in an ice cream cup and decorated with any desired toppings. And me being me wanted plain and simple chocolate.

Jelly-Pudding

This is something that any kid (especially 90s kids. No offense readers !) would understand.

Every summer weekday when school got over, every kid would run down to the nearest candy store and purchase one of these Jelly-pudding , of their personal flavours.

This is mainly small cup-packets of jelly that comes in different favorite. The best part of this is how once takes the whole thing and wiggles it complete inside your mouth, then finally lick the rest of the jelly out of the tinee-tiny cup.

Ice-Gola

Ice-Gola (Snow-cone) which is now famous in almost every state of the county , was actually a very famous recepie of North-India.

In short its basically ice crushed, moulded into shape by hands, putting a stick into it and finally adding the diffrent flavours to it.

Badam Pista Ice-Cream

While walking along college streets to hunt for some good notebooks. It was June and both me and my travel buddy was yearning for some delicious cold ice-cream to beat the scorching heat.
Luckily for us, a few moments later we came across a man selling ONLY one kind of ice cream- of badam pista flavour. Hence we thought of giving it a try.

This ice cream sure gave us an usual , down to earth feeling, taking us back to old times when chocolate strawberry wasn't a craze !
